Something struck me as I was reading a text about education in Ancient Greece
How come we all accept that girls were married between 12 and 15 to men that were at least 30 years old as a cultural fact, but older men having a relationship that involves teaching, affection and, yes, sex with boys of 16/18 immediately makes us scream “pedophile!!!”?
#my textbook was written in the 50s and used words like inversion#but the reaction of my classmates was the same#ancient greeks were pedophile!!!#only referring to the erastès/eromenos relationship#this kind of thinking is so rooted in our culture that they didn't even notice the incongruence#ancient greece
